Milton Maxwell
Investing/Early-stage

Close to founders, early.

Our earliest exposure to the build-out comes two ways: small angel checks into operators we know, and LP positions in a select set of startup funds. Both keep us close to founders at the edge of an industry, the highest-bandwidth way to understand what's happening before it shows up in public-market data.

Direct

Angel checks

We're not running a venture fund. Angel investing is adjacent to everything else we do: it gives us exposure to ideas earlier than we'd otherwise have it, and it surfaces the growth-stage companies that mature out of that network. We invest small, in operators we've worked with or whose work we've followed closely.

Early-stage companies Milton Maxwell principals have backed as angels, each with a short thesis on why we invested.

  • Cypress Battery

    Charlie, Alex

A domestic battery back up unit (BBU) assembly built for the high-power discharge AI data centers need at the rack level. A bet that as data center racks require greater power density, the integrators tuned for that beat the incumbents built for steady-state.

  • Tribe.ai

    Charlie

AI adoption is bottlenecked on talent; Tribe is the expert network that unblocks it.

  • Neuralace

    Charlie

Personal brain-computer interfaces are around the corner, and this is the team building them.

  • Marathon Fusion

    Charlie, Alex

Fusion's unsolved bottleneck is the fuel cycle. Marathon is the team solving it.

  • Fleetworks

    Charlie

AI voice agents for the phone-call grind of freight brokerage.

  • Trayd

    Charlie

A back-office OS for construction's specialty trades: union rules, prevailing wages, and same-day pay.

  • Swiftlane

    Charlie, Alex

Access control for offices and apartments, rebuilt software-first around face recognition.

  • Serene Sleep

    Charlie

A 15-minute palatal implant for snoring and mild sleep apnea, no masks or surgery required.

  • Needle

    Charlie

An ad agency replacement that ships faster and costs less.

  • Ariglad

    Charlie

Turns the answers buried in support tickets into a self-maintaining knowledge base.

  • Triply

    Charlie

The operating system for travel agencies, built in Nairobi for the African market.

  • VClub

    Charlie, Alex

An AI-native poker coach vertically integrated with card-reading hardware, a card room in Toronto where founders and operators play together, and camps taught by poker pros.

  • Assured

    Alex

Agentic AI for healthcare provider credentialing, automating the verification workflow that gates a new healthcare worker's ability to practice. A bet on one of healthcare's oldest back-office bottlenecks, at the same time healthcare workers are practicing across more states, startups, and virtual venues.

  • PathOn Robotics

    Charlie, Alex

One open-source software and sensor stack built to run on any robot, plus their own reference hardware 6-DOF arm, symmetric gripper, dexterous hand. A bet on the platform layer of robotics: as more hardware comes online, the team that owns the universal control stack captures more value than any single robot maker.

  • genproof.ai

    GenProof

    Charlie, Alex

An agent that proves the correctness of code, pairing a specialized LLM with the Isabelle prover to generate mathematical proofs over every execution path. A bet that as AI writes more software, the bottleneck shifts from generation to verification, and the tooling that closes that gap becomes infrastructure.

  • Apero

    Alex

Modern operating software for medical practices, scheduling, visit notes, RCM, patient billing, and prescriptions in one platform, built by operators from Doctor on Demand. A bet that the back office of independent medicine has been under-tooled for decades.

  • And others…

Indirect

LP in startup funds

Beyond what we back directly, Milton Maxwell is a limited partner in a select set of venture funds, almost all early-stage. We don't back funds for diversification's sake. We back funds whose managers are exceptional, whose strategies reach corners of the market we can't cover ourselves, and whose deal flow and judgment make us better investors.

01

A manager with a real edge.

Domain depth, a distinctive network, or a strategy that doesn't compete with everyone else's.

02

A strategy that complements ours.

A stage, geography, or sector where being an LP gives us reach we'd otherwise lack.

03

Alignment.

Managers who invest their own capital and think in decades.

Funds where Milton Maxwell principals are limited partners.

  • South Park Commons (SPC) Fund

    LP · Charlie, Alex

A community-first fund that backs technical founders before they have a company, at the "pre-idea" stage. Being an LP keeps us close to a dense network of operators at the exact moment they're forming the next set of theses.

  • Iterative

    LP · Charlie

Y Combinator's accelerator model, ported to Southeast Asia. Gives us reach into a region whose manufacturing, capital flows, and consumer markets increasingly matter to our public-equity thesis, exposure we couldn't build ourselves from San Francisco.

  • Banana Capital

    LP · Charlie

Turner Novak's solo-GP fund, writing small early checks into internet-first founders.

  • AngelList Access Fund

    LP · Charlie

AngelList's flagship wrapper: broad exposure to its syndicates and rolling funds.

  • Mission St Capital

    LP · Charlie

An early-stage generalist fund grown out of the Mission Control hacker house.

  • Seven Hill Ventures

    LP · Alex

An early-stage cybersecurity fund founded by Michael Coates (3x CISO at Twitter, Mozilla, and CoinList). Backs technical founders building security tooling for a post AI world.

  • Sweet Spot Capital

    LP · Charlie, Alex

A pre-seed fund led by Allen Gannett (founder of TrackMaven, author of The Creative Curve). Allen applies the same framework from the book to founder selection, looking for people doing breakout creative work in the narrow band between the familiar and the genuinely new.
